Known as Local Business Tax Receipt – Effective January 1st 2007
Generally, the Occupational License tax or Local Business Tax Receipt requires all businesses located and/or operating in a County to obtain a county Occupational License.
If you use your Florida property to obtain rental income then you will need to obtain an occupational license. We suggest that you ensure that your Management Company will obtain the appropriate licenses for your property, or alternatively, you may contact your county and apply for them yourself. Anyone providing merchandise or services to the public, even through a one-person company or home based occupation must obtain a county permit to operate. In some cases, if a business performs several functions, it may be necessary to acquire more than one Local Business Tax Receipt.
The business may need to meet certain conditions required by city, county, state, or federal agency regulations, which apply to that business or occupation before a license may be issued.
If the nature of a business takes employees inside a city limit to conduct business, even though the business establishment is in the county, it may be necessary to obtain a city license also.
Local Business Tax Receipt’s are renewed annually in August and September. Failure to renew a Local Business Tax Receipt subjects the owner to delinquent fees. All businesses must maintain a current Local Business Tax Receipt.
It is the responsibility of the business owner to report to the Tax Collectors’ Office a change of address, name change, or ownership transfer.
